I recently passed the AWS AI Practitioner exam, and I wanted to share my experience and study strategy for anyone looking to tackle this certification. If you’re considering it, I hope my insights can help you prepare effectively.
My Study Approach
To prepare, I relied entirely on free or low-cost resources, combining different learning platforms to cover both theory and hands-on practice:
AWS Skillbuilder Free Exam – A great resource for reviewing official exam domains and practicing realistic questions. Check out AWS’ exam guide to know what the exam covers as well as the free exam within Skillbuilder!
https://aws.amazon.com/certification/certification-prep

Andrew Brown’s AWS AI Practitioner Course on YouTube – His detailed videos helped me solidify concepts and understand practical applications of AI services within AWS.
Stephan Maarek’s Udemy Course for AWS AI Practitioner – An excellent structured course that guided me through AI fundamentals and AWS-specific services. He is always doing promotions within Udemy, and I was able to snag this course for cheap!

Whizlabs Free Study Guide & Practice Exam – Helpful for simulating the real exam environment and checking knowledge gaps.
By combining these resources, I felt confident in both the theoretical and practical sides of AI on AWS.
Exam Day Experience
I opted to take the exam remotely from home, but I ran into some technical difficulties with the Pearson VUE software leading up to the test. If you plan to take it remotely, my advice is:
- Check firewall permissions ahead of time
- Test your equipment thoroughly beforehand
- Have Patience! Exam results are not immediate after the exam like in the case of the cloud practitioner exam. I received my PASS/Badge within 6 hours of taking my exam, but results can take up to 5 days.
Despite being on edge because of the software troubles, once I started the exam, the questions were straightforward and clear.
What’s on the Exam
The exam has lots of questions on AI fundamentals, I’d say nearly 40% focused on the basics. Beyond that, you can expect questions on AWS AI services:
- Amazon SageMaker, Bedrock, and Q – Knowing the differences and primary use cases is essential!
- Other AWS AI services like Macie, Polly, etc.
- Both Andrew Brown’s and Stephan Maarek’s courses were excellent in preparing me for these topics.
What’s Next
Passing this exam has motivated me to pursue the next level of AWS AI certifications. I’m excited to continue learning and expanding my knowledge in AI on AWS. Onward to the next certification! Which one do you think I should strive for next?
